VECCHI: "GOOD RESULT BUT WE CAN PLAY BETTER"

Primavera boss admits his young charges weren't on their game in today's 2-2 draw with Chievo but feels a dip was due after their sparkling displays of late

CASELLE DI SOMMACAMPAGNA – "I'm happy with the result but we're used to playing better than that." Stefano Vecchi summed up his thoughts in those few words following his side's 2-2 draw at Chievo Verona in Week 20 of the Primavera league this afternoon.

Speaking to Inter Channel, the coach went on to analyse today's match in more depth. "We were on the right track but then we conceded a goal that we could have avoided. They're a good team and we weren't really on top of our game today."

Today's match came a week after the Under-19s returned to the top of the table with a hard-fought 2-1 win over AC Milan.  He continued: A bit of a dip is maybe understandable after the Viareggio Cup and the derby. I can't blame my players, even though it was a bit of a light-hearted week. We came away with a good result in the end but we need to prepare for these matches better."

Vecchi nonetheless was quick to give credit to less year's Scudetto winners, before concluding by looking ahead to his team's rearranged fixture with Perugia next weekend.

"We suffered a bit in the wide areas, but there's no shame in admitting that Chievo caused problems for us given the quality players they have at their disposal.

"We'll take the point and immediately start thinking about our game in hand against Perugia next Saturday - one we'll have to play without our internationals.

"We've shown we're capable of winning but if we want to continue that we have to maintain our focus and intensity."
