MILAN – "Today’s defeat is a blip and we need to forget about it straight away," declared Piero Ausilio shortly after the final whistle had blown between Inter and Fiorentina.
"We would’ve liked to have kept building on our recent results, but we need to look ahead and take the positives from this match. We believe in our project – we’ve made important decisions and built a path that we have to keep following. We need to move forward all together.
"There’s a long way to go in the league. With 13 matches still to play, focusing on the Europa League only wouldn’t be right for a big team. We have two matches against Wolfsburg and we’ll make sure we’re ready for them. We can’t think too far ahead in the league – we need to take each match as it comes and approach every match looking to win," said Ausilio.
Returning to the match against Fiorentina, Ausilio continued: "Unfortunately, goals are what count in football. Fiorentina scored from a cross that seemed to be under control, whereas we had five or six great chances to score and it’s those moments that make the difference.
"We were lacking a bit of energy, particularly at the end when our numerical advantage could’ve made things easier for us. We had to rotate and make some changes, and unfortunately it turned out the way it did," concluded Ausilio.
