MILAN - Inter were aggressive tonight as they put in a stellar performance in front of more than 30,000 at the San Siro. The Nerazzurri were inspired by the direct running of Shaqiri and Brozovic's precision passing. Medel was there to tidy up, while Guarin and Icardi showed no mercy in front of goal.
The first action of the match came on 7 minutes as Guarin got his head to a Shaqiri corner. Palermo's chief threat was unsurprisingly Paulo Dybala, who had Handanovic worried on the quarter-hour mark with a curling effort that went just wide.
Brozovic pulled the strings for Mancini's side and he played a big part in the opening goal. The Croatian won the ball back before striking towards goal. Jajalo got his body in the way to send the ball behind for a corner. Shaqiri then put his corner on a plate for Guarin, who climbed highest to head into the corner and give the Nerazzurri the lead. That was Inter's seventh goal from a corner this term.
The hosts came forward in search of a second: it was Guarin once again involved as he looked to catch out Sorrentino with a shot from distance but missed the target. The visitors tried to respond though Rigoni was profligate as the ball was cut back to him from the left.
Inter came again as Brozovic skipped past three defenders and shot wide with the outside of his boot. The first half came to a close following a further effort from Gary Medel.
The Rosanero had a gilt-edged opportunity to level just six minutes after the restart. Rigoni struck the post in the midst of a goalmouth scramble, after Handanovic had saved well from Dybala. The ball eventually broke to the Argentine, who screwed his shot over from barely a yard out.
The Nerazzurri would then give the woodwork some treatment. Icardi headed against the upright from outside the penalty area after a lovely ball from Guarin just before the hour mark. Ranocchia then clipped the top of the crossbar as he met a corner with a towering leap.
Inter were relentless in their pursuit a second goal and it was Icardi who eventually found the net. Guarin played in Palacio on the right down near the by-line. His cut-back then found its way to Icardi who drilled a low shot into the corner. That brought Maurito's tally to a dozen for the season as he moved above Dybala.
Icardi would then add his 13th goal of the campaign three minutes from time. He had the simplest of tasks to cushion a header home and seal the points. The provider this time was Guarin.
