APPIANO GENTILE - The story of Davide Santon, 24, at Inter had come to a halt in 2011. It was the tale of a natural-born talent who hadn't lived up to expectations. He headed north to Newcastle United to make a fresh start. Three and a half years later, 'the kid', as José Mourinho dubbed him, has come home. He's back at Inter, the club that developed him and that once again today welcomes him with a smile.
"I come back a more experienced player after the last three and a half years. I made nearly 100 appearances in England, despite not playing for around nine months due to injury. I'm here to compete. This is my home. I got a call from Piero and a couple of hours later I phoned him back and said I'd be happy to come back.
"I've come into a young squad, full of players keen to prove themselves. Results might not be going our way at the moment because we're being punished for our mistakes. I was young during my first spell at Inter. I've since grown up and I always want to improve.
"I slotted in naturally at Napoli but the Palermo game will obviously be tough. Chloe also convinced me to come here. Her tweet was a misunderstanding. I never once said I was an AC Milan fan. I liked AC Milan as a kid but all I can say now is I respect Inter and support this club. They asked me a question about what I was like as a kid and that was my answer. I grew up as an Inter fan.
"I owe everything to Mourinho. It was a case of sliding doors with Mancini at Inter. I was in the Primavera when he was last here and I only met him at Manchester City in England. I've seen what sort of coach he is: successful, knowledgable and highly competent.
"I'll play wherever the team needs me. I like playing on the flanks, be it the left or right side. I'll play wherever Mancini picks me. I won't play against Palermo like I did in the past. Every game is different."
