MANCINI: "A RIDICULOUS GOAL TO CONCEDE"

The coach was distraught after losing to Napoli in injury time but tried to take some positives: "We're playing as a team now and the youngsters did well"

NAPLES – "I don't have much to say, you just can't concede a goal like that." Roberto Mancini was bitterly disappointed after seeing his side crash out of the cup against Napoli in second-half stoppage time.

The manager went on: "We played really well throughout the game but every time we go and hand the opposition a free goal. We were far too lax. Higuain is a smart player and he nipped in there before anyone else on the throw-in. We were like a bunch of chickens, it was five against one. It was a ridiculous goal to concede."

He then attempted to look beyond the disappointment of tonight's cruel defeat and comment on what went well for his men. "There were lots of positives to take. The lads are playing well now and that's important. We're growing as a team but we can't afford to make so many mistakes. We did the same on Sunday with Zaza and Sansone. This goal we let in tonight was absurd. I'm shocked. We shouldn't have lost the game like that."

Mancini ended with words of praise for Brozovic, Santon and Puscas, who all made their full debuts tonight. "They're young players we've brought in and I'm very happy with the way they performed.

"Kovacic? We only had one change left and I was saving it for extra time. It was virtually over but sadly Higuain went and nabbed the winner."
