MILAN – “I’d like to thank the Triennale for this exhibition. It depicts so many of the moments I shared with the fans, moments I’ll carry with me forever. Inter is my life,” began Javier Zanetti. The evening at the prestigious Milan institute, which is currently playing host to an exhibition on the Nerazzurri vice-president, was organised for the benefit of the PUPI foundation. The great man soon found himself on the stage to say a few words of acknowledgement.
“The night I said goodbye to the San Siro was fantastic. Seeing all the people who’d come to the stadium to see me off, I felt all the feelings that tie me to Inter. It’s a bond that will never end,” said Zanetti. The exhibition had clearly conjured up recent memories.
The most unforgettable night in the club’s history was also evoked by the evening’s events. In fact, Zanetti considers his jersey from that famous Madrid night to be the one he cherishes most of all: “If I had to choose one shirt in particular then it would have to be my jersey from the Champions League final. That night was the culmination of every single game I’d ever played for Inter. I couldn’t have asked for anything more from it.”
Minutes before Zanetti took to the stage, the president of the Triennale Foundation Claudio de Albertis – a Nerazzurri fan – praised Zanetti not just as an Inter icon but as an icon for sport in general, given his extensive charity work. It was for this very reason that the institute had decided to house the exhibition dedicated to the current Inter vice-president.
Over 400 people came to mark the occasion with the Nerazzurri legend, who spent much of his evening posing for photos and autographing jerseys and books.
