ERICK THOHIR: "HAPPY WITH THE TEAM WE'VE BUILT"

MILAN – After landing in Milan this afternoon in time for tonight's UEFA Europa League play-off against Stjarnan, president Erick Thohir fielded a number of questions from journalists waiting at Malpensa.

He began by analysing Inter's summer transfer business: "We believe we have built a good team to compete in Serie A and the Europa League. There's a good balance between experienced, senior players and younger players. As I've said before, our target was an average age of about 26 years old and we've achieved that. We're well balanced in defence, midfield and attack now, with Osvaldo, M'Vila, Medel, Dodo and Vidic coming in. So we're happy with the situation right now but in football you never know. The transfer window is still open. We'll try to think what's best for Inter."

Thohir was then quizzed about potential arrivals. "We need to balance the books as well because you see there are some clubs who can't buy players due to Financial Fair Play. It's important for us to protect our interests because otherwise we can't play in UEFA competitions. Marco Fassone and Piero Ausilio together with the coach are in charge of transfers, so let me check!" the president replied with a smile.

Has the gap with the top three in Serie A has been reduced? "I think Lazio are building a good team, as are Roma, Juventus, Fiorentina and Napoli. It's exciting to have more than four teams competing because it's good for Serie A as it means the fans, not just in Italy but around the world, can watch better games."

Finally, on Carlo Tavecchio's appointment: "We have a new president and hopefully he can build something good for Serie A, although I know it's not easy. Hopefully I'll get to see him soon."
