MORATTI: "INTER'S COLOURS, HISTORY AND BEAUTY ARE WHAT MATTER MOST"

"What kind of evening was it? Fair and respectful. I was glad I could end such a wonderful era with them, and one so full of memories"

VERONA - At the end of Chievo v Inter, honorary Inter president Massimo Moratti spoke with journalists at the Stadio Bentegodi:

This is what he had to say:

"What kind of evening was it? It seemed to be a fair and respectful one. I was glad I could end such a wonderful era with them, and one so full of memories. They’re all so appreciated. They’re all loved – not only Zanetti – and they all did more than I could have imagined.

"Had the time come to move on? If the club made that decision then it means the projects are set up for this kind of change. They’re made in such a way as to permit these things. The club made the right step from a coaching and political standpoint.

"The club is important as always, and creating a team that can be successful soon isn’t easy. But they’ll try to do that straight off. Sacrifices will be made in the right way as they consider how to build a winning team.

Then some comments on statements from Roberto Donadoni, who was connected via communications link from the Stadio Tardini in Parma, followed by some on Seedorf, who spoke from the San Siro: "I thank Donadoni for his kind words. He’s a good person and an excellent coach. How would he seem to me on the AC Milan bench? Coaches have always been a problem for Inter, so if you now want me to consider them for other teams… He’s very good, just as Seedorf is.

"When he played for us he showed how much character he has and I admire him highly as a person. I’m supporting him to do well. Do I hope to see him again on the AC Milan bench? I hope so, but not as an Interista. That’s something that could be misunderstood [smiling]. I don’t want to interfere with what could turn out to be AC Milan history.

"Ausilio will do a good job. He has the necessary experience and is also capable of communicating what he’s doing. I don’t believe the club intends to create a larger structure.

"We were also unlucky in certain results this season and there were a few bitter pills we had to swallow… Every club in Italy is going through this situation in which they have to be careful in many different ways. Inter have to do it as well. It depends on the choices you make, if they’re made well or not as regards the players. It’s a reflection of the age we’re in.

"What remains from this evening is the nostalgia that these players can make you feel, and that doesn’t just go for Inter fans. The page is being turned and a new era is awaiting us with new players that I hope will have their character, level and class. It’s the end of a cycle that brought every kind of emotion possible. Now something new is beginning that will be carried out in a different way.

"What is an image that could sum up these years? They brought profound emotions, and what comes to mind is the fantastic rapport with both the fans and the players. I can only thank the heavens for what this cycle has brought.

"Thohir? Every club president has to be very careful at the beginning. It’s a different world and something new for him. I believe he has every intention of doing good things. And he will.

"Cambiasso? It’s part of the club’s strategy, and if they made this decision then it means they have something in mind that’s right for the future.

"What matter most are Inter’s colours, history and beauty. These are the things we have to stay the most connected to."
