ABANO TERME - Just incredible: that's the best way to describe the Nerazzurri Giovanissimi Regionali B. Paolo Migliavacca's lads strung together a run of goal-filled victories against top international opposition, last but not least Benfica in the final.
Inter's run began against Benfica and a 3-1 win thanks to Sakho's hat-trick. They then saw off Abano 3-0 (Junior, Opoku and Sorrentino on the score sheet). Sakho then struck another treble in a 3-1 win over Bruges, before the marathon penalty shoot-out against Bayer Leverkusen: that followed a 4-4 draw at full time (Guedebet, Sakho and Opoku (2) the scorers). The Nerazzurri eventually prevailed 11-10 on spot-kicks.
Atletico Madrid stood between the Nerazzurri and the final. The result? 4-1. Sakho and Zullo scored either side of an Opoku brace to smash the Colchoneros and claim a deserved place in the final.
The Abano Terme International Tournament, into its 23rd edition, ended today with the final between the Nerazzurri and the side from Portugal. Opoku scored twice, once in normal time, and again in extra time but the match went to penalties as it finished 2-2. Inter won the shoot-out 7-6 just as they did all of their matches in the tournament.
Congratulations guys!
