MILAN - Ahead of Inter v Udinese, sporting director Piero Ausilio gave a few statements to Sky Sport Italia.
This is what he had to say:
"Erick Thohir gave us precise tasks to carry out from an individual standpoint. It’s exaggerated to think about who has more or less to do. We need to make a team with the logic of a team. The president hasn’t closed the door on the players over 30 years old. He knows just how much their experience counts. And it matters little whether they’re 29 or 31."
"The youngsters from the youth academy are on loan, so they’re going to be back. I believe that after the coach and I make some assessments some are going to remain here and have their chances.
"Why are we struggling to score at home? Maybe we need to raise the crossbar a bit higher [smiling]. Sometimes we’re lacking a bit of focus in the final ball. But I’d be much more worried if we weren’t creating chances. However, that’s not the case. Just think about what happened on Sunday…
"Winning isn’t easy but I don’t know anyone who isn’t focused on it. We’re going onto the pitch with that as our objective. We’re keeping in mind the economic parameters we’ve been given to build a great team. The coach is giving his all every week, and everything we’ve done over these several months will serve us next season. I’m certain of that.
"I’ve come from the youth sector, so you don’t need to have any doubts about how much I believe in our academy. When I see Inter youth academy products doing well in other teams it makes me proud. And then when you consider that important players are coming through you can’t help but be proud.
"Thin-skinned referee? I won’t comment on that.
"Which one is the best among Dzeko, Torres or Morata? I think it’s clear we’re working in that direction, but that doesn’t mean we have to get rid of anyone.
"In football you sometimes find significant resources and solutions. We’re trying to come up with a bit of Italian imagination and ingenuity in order to compete with the countries that are ahead of us, like England and Germany."
