MILAN – This evening Inter captain Javier Zanetti attended the launch for the Pupi Foundation’s new initiative, "Campagna Braccialetti 2014" [bracelet campaign], and took some time to answer a few questions from journalists.
Can you explain just what this initiative is for?
"It was a big success in the past and it’s very important for us. The bracelets are interwoven with the colours of our country, Argentina. It means a kind of union for everyone who has given us a hand in carrying forward with our work. All my team-mates have joined in and posed wearing the bracelet. We’re happy because we’ve made so much progress. There have been many projects and what matters is that the children are doing well."
Today’s win against Torino was an important one for Inter.
"We needed it, also because we were celebrating a birthday that’s very special to all of us. Now we’re more relaxed and the points have pushed us closer to Fiorentina, who are in fourth place."
How important is it for Inter to hang on to Andrea Ranocchia, who played an excellent match today?
"I’m very happy for Andrea because he had been waiting for his chance and showed what he can do."
After the game Palacio announced he’d be re-signing.
"We know all about his quality and I believe he’ll be a great player putting on the Inter shirt in the future."
How was the meeting with president Erick Thohir?
"I’m so happy because I believe I’ll continue to be a part of Inter. But I had no doubts since everything was always very clear with the president. What matters most is that this relationship continue."
Is Mauro Icardi finally on the right track?
"He can give us a lot. He’s coming off of a bad injury and now he’s getting his form back. He’s one more weapon for us."
What can you tell us about Freddy Guarin’s probable contract renewal?
"He’s also doing very well. After the transfer market story he seems more relaxed to me and he’s showing this with every match."
