MILAN - With president Erick Thohir in the crowd, Inter were unable to continue their recent winning run, as it finished all square against Cagliari.
Mazzarri picked a back three of Rolando, Samuel and Juan Jesus in front of Handanovic. Jonathan, Guarin, Kuzmanovic, Alvarez and Nagatomo made up the middle five, while Palacio partnered Milito in attack.
Just two minutes in, Mr. Russo waved play on despite Guarin being fouled: the Colombian was well found by El Principe. Juan Jesus was then harshly cautioned, meaning he had to walk a tightrope for the rest of the contest. Inter created a good chance on the half-hour mark, Palacio just a whisker away from latching onto Guarin's ball. Vecino then fired a warning shot ten minutes before the break. Cagliari though did take the lead five minutes before the interval: Pinilla coolly sent Handanovic the wrong way after Juan Jesus had accidentally handled in the box. Inter very nearly levelled in first half stoppage time. Milito's drive was too hot to handle for Avramov, but the visiting keeper reacted in time to deny Alvarez on the follow-up. After two minutes of added time the first half ended Inter 0-1 Cagliari.
It took just seven minutes of the second period for substitute Icardi - on for Milito - to make an impact. His header back across goal was turned in by Rolando to restore parity. The Nerazzurri then went all out for a winner, with Icardi coming closest as his header cannoned back off the crossbar. He should have had a penalty after being impeded on the rebound but Mr. Russo didn't agree and the small winning sequence came to an end.
