MAZZARRI: "WE'VE BROKEN THE HOODOO"

"Samuel? We've got world-class players up top and at the back, he's one of them, he's won everything. We needed a leader like him back there"

MILAN - Walter Mazzarri spoke to the media following Inter's win over Sassuolo.

Here's what the Inter coach had to say:

"I'd keep almost everything from tonight's performance. We played well and it was tough tonight. Opponents in Italy prepare for matches very well and Sassuolo are an excellent side. We managed to win and break this hoodoo. Hernanes and Guarin played well. Hernanes performed well, he's an important player, you could see he was up for the game.

"Icardi? He would have come on had we not taken the lead, but then we scored. Botta has done well, so that's why he came on. I was told not to bring him on for a whole half, because otherwise he might have faded quickly, it's important that he trains. He definitely has a part to play.

"Milito needs to regain some elasticity in his leg following the injury, but you can't fault his professionalism, he's world-class. If you watch our best chance back on video, you'll see that his shot was blocked, it was goal-bound. He's a natural-born goalscorer, and can only get better. Samuel? We've got world-class players up top and at the back, he's one of them, he's won everything. Lots of players in our squad should follow his example, show his desire to come out on top and that meanness. He did well at Udinese in the Coppa Italia too and has looked good in training. He might have just been lacking a bit of sharpness on account of his injury but we needed a leader like him back there. Berardi was playing on the left and the choice was between Juan and Campagnaro, given that Rolando hasn't put a foot wrong since he's been playing regularly.

"Botta? He's a striker, a nippy attacker, not a powerful centre forward. I was unsure as to whether or not to start him, because he's coming on a lot. He's also coming back from a serious injury. He's backing up what we initially saw in him, now the squad is competitive and the transfer window is shut, I have no limits in my team selection.

"Nothing much has happened between me and Alessandro Melli, he's argued a bit with Frustalupi in the past, perhaps something went on there. But nothing much springs to mind between me and him."
