SERIE A, JUVENTUS 3-1 INTER

Rolando tried to get the Nerazzurri back into it after goals by Lichtsteiner, Chiellini and Vidal but Inter's late rally proved futile

TURIN – Juventus beat Inter 3-1 at Juventus Stadium to win the Derby d'Italia.

Mazzarri went with his favoured three-man system at the back, Campagnaro, Rolando and Juan Jesus lining up in front of Handanovic. Jonathan and Nagatomo patrolled the flanks with Kovacic, Kuzmanovic and Taider in the middle of the park, and Alvarez started in the hole behind Palacio.

Juventus carved out a chance almost immediately and Handanovic was forced to make a double save after just 3 minutes to thwart Tevez.

The hosts did open the scoring on the quarter-of-an hour mark, however, when Lichtsteiner nodded past Handanovic after receiving Pirlo's ball in the box.

Most of the chances went to the Bianconeri in the first period but Inter had a great opportunity for an equaliser in the 40th minute as Kovacic orchestrated a counter-attack before feeding Palacio, only to see his Argentine team-mate shoot over. Handanovic was called into action before and after that chance, denying Tevez and Asamoah.

The first half ended with Juve leading 1-0.

The second period was barely two minutes old when Chiellini doubled the Bianconeri's advantage following a defensive mess-up.

Then with 66 minutes on the clock it became three: Handanovic did well to parry Pogba's close-range strike but Vidal was on hand to stab home the rebound.

It all looked over yet Inter attempted to fight back all the same and reduced the arrears on 72 minutes when Rolando fired through a crowd to make it 3-1.

The Nerazzurri pushed forward seeking another and forced a few more chances as they cranked up the pressure on Juventus late on: D'Ambrosio was just beaten to Alvarez's cross and Palacio headed wide from a great position.

After three minutes of added time, in which substitute Vucinic struck the post, it ended Juventus 3-1 Inter.
