FASSONE: "THE APPEAL? WE'RE HOPING FOR COMMON SENSE"

"I hope the game is played in a packed San Siro with eighty thousand people, which is always spectacular"

MILAN – From the evening event dedicated to the Nerazzurri’s Youth Academy, managing director Marco Fassone answered questions from journalists.

Here is what he had to say:

The discussion regards the appeal filed by the club following the closing of the second tier verde: "We presented the appeal and now it’s time for common sense. We’re pointing out the disproportion of the sanctions compared to the findings of the prosecutor and the sporting judge. We’re quite confident common sense will prevail. And then I don’t want to get into matters that are up to those responsible for public order. However it goes, we will obviously accept the decisions and follow the instructions that are issued.

"It would be very disappointing to play a derby with part of the stadium empty. It seems excessive to close a section of eight thousand people all because of the bad behaviour of a few hundred. Beyond this, to imagine that the most watched game in our league, which is followed all over the world, will have to be played with both curvas empty… It wouldn’t be easy to explain the reasons for it abroad. Furthermore, Italy risks coming off as a country that isn’t at a level it deserves to be at when it comes to football. I really hope common sense prevails and the game is played in a packed San Siro, in front of eighty thousand people; something which is always spectacular for everyone."

He then had a comment regarding new Nerazzurri president Erick Thohir, who will see his first ever derby in person: "Erick Thohir is going to watch his first derby, and it’s a game he always followed from Indonesia. Should he have any messages, and for the players specifically, I believe he’ll do it in person. One of the things he has planned over the next few days is a meeting with the players."

Finally, a question on the January transfer market: "The January transfer window is a peculiar one, as everyone knows. You can’t set a strategy in which you say, ‘I’m going to take this player rather than that one’ because in this moment every team is trying to improve their current situation. If specific moves are required then they’ll be made, which will be compatible with the possibilities this window will permit. Marco Branca and Piero Ausilio have been closely taking care of these things for quite some time now and steadily monitoring the possibilities. Should any come up they’ll be evaluated."
