ZANETTI: "NEW OBJECTIVES FOR THE PUPI FOUNDATION"

"We've been working since 2001 to offer an alternative to many children who really need us"

MILAN – On the evening of 11 December the "Gentleman Christmas Gala" was held; a dinner for charity dedicated to the Inter colours and to solidarity. So of course captain Javier Zanetti and several other Nerazzurri figures played a leading part. Upon arriving at the Hotel Melià, Javier Zanetti answered questions from awaiting reporters.

Here is what he had to say:

"It’s an important evening and something we do every year. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who come to support my foundation and show just how much they care. We always have new objectives and projects for the future because these children really need us, and we’re here to offer them a valid alternative."

The captain then answered a few questions on the period the team is currently going through: "I think we’re on a path of growth. We’re aware of the fact that we haven’t done well in our recent matches. We’re a group that still has to work hard and improve. We’ll do it together with the coach. What do I think of Massimo Moratti’s statements? The president was a true gentleman to say this, but we have to take responsibility for ourselves, as we always have, and try to show our full worth on the pitch.

"Icardi? I believe the most important thing Mauro has to do now is recover from the injury he suffered and then get back to form so he can do his part for us. That’s very important. By the way, I hope he and Milito will be ready for the derby, and the same goes for Samuel. I think we need everyone at a moment like this. Some of the most important games are coming before the break, and we have to prepare for them the best we can."

Finally, a couple of questions regarding the January transfer window: "Will we need a centre forward? That’s something the coach will decide together with the club. Now the only thing we need to think about is how to prepare for these two matches in the best possible way and earning two wins, which would really be important. Lavezzi? No, I haven’t heard from him [laughing]. Would I like it if he came to Inter? I think any team would be happy to get him. But again: our coach, our directors and the owners are the ones who are there to make the best decisions."
