MILAN – On Saturday 23 November the second Inter Campus Day took place; an
initiative that involves a collaboration between the department of Paediatric
Oncology-Haematology of the San Gerardo Hospital in Monza, the Maria Letizia
Verga Committee and Inter Campus, dedicated to children who are being treated
for and cured of leukaemia.
The project aims to demonstrate that, in most cases, a child who has been cured
of an oncological illness can once again lead a normal life involving sporting
activity.
On the Sport Park football pitch in Vedano al Lambro, which was kindly provided
by the club G.S. Vedano, coaches Alberto Giacomini, Juri Monzani and Dario
Tripol held a session with 30 boys and girls. Some of them had never played
football and expressed their desire to return to the next encounter. Others
hadn’t expected to be able to train with other children since they are still
receiving treatment in the hospital. Then there were those who had begun
playing just one month before becoming ill, and then made a return to the pitch
after beating the disease.
Also present were Inter Campus adviser Marco Capellini, who wanted to say hello
to the children and their families, and Dr. Marco Spinelli, who was able to
observe the sporting activities of his young patients and ex-patients.
