ALVAREZ: "WE ALL FEEL IMPORTANT IN THE TEAM AND THAT'S GREAT"

Midfielder explained to Sky Sport 24: "In football it takes ages to show what you can do but a second for the boos to return. I mustn't ever relax"

MILAN - After his time away with the national team, Ricky Alvarez is ready to return to Serie A action with Inter. In an exclusive interview with Sky Sport 24, the midfielder began by speaking about Argentina and whether he already feels he'll be on the plane to his first World Cup: "No, it's still some way off. I do feel though that I'm part of the group although ultimately it's the coach who picks the team. I have to give everything for Inter, this is the right way to go to the World Cup."

The conversation then moved on to the league and the fact that Inter are only three points behind Napoli in the table with the match between the sides coming up: "I'm thinking about Bologna," replied Alvarez. "I think we're having a good season and that the three teams ahead of us are going at an impressive rate. We'll take it one game at a time and then we'll see come the end."

What about the Argentine's thoughts on Erick Thohir, the new Inter president? "To be honest I don't know him and I haven't had the chance to meet him yet, but someone who's come in to help the club is always welcome and it's a good thing. He joins with his own ideas and he'll definitely be good for the club."

The Nerazzurri frontline is breaking records in 2013/14, but is there a risk that Inter might become overly reliant on Palacio? "We've scored 29 goals and I think he's contributed 7 of those. Rodrigo is really important, but the great thing in our team is that everyone feels important. Me as a striker? I play where the coach picks me, but I'm definitely not a striker. Our injured players will come back.

"Does Mazzarri prefer me playing in central midfield with Guarin off the front? I don't know. Yes, we've done well in the last two matches where we've played like that, but we also did well in the games Mateo Kovacic played or when I played as a support striker. What matters is giving everything when you go out on the pitch."

Last season Alvarez was booed and came in for criticism, something he has now put behind him: "In football it takes ages to show what you can do, but it only takes a second to go back to being booed and maligned. I mustn't ever relax and have to always give my all, that way I can consistently show what I'm capable of. Is it an anomaly the fact Inter have gone so long without having a penalty? It's a significant statistic, they struggle to give us penalties, there have been fouls in the box that they could have blown for. I don't know why it happens but I don't hold it against the referees at all."
