APPIANO GENTILE – Another penalty save by Juan Pablo Carrizo. After his spot-kick heroics against Juventus in the Guinness International Champions Cup in the States, he came up trumps from 12 yards once again when he replaced Handanovic in the 6th minute against Torino. Inter's second keeper chats about that save and much more as today's guest on InterNOS, the Inter Channel programme which airs on Sky Sport Italia (channel 232) every Wednesday at 21:00.
On facing a penalty straight after coming onto the pitch last Sunday. Carrizo explained: "That's what it's all about when you're a goalkeeper. You have to train every day as if you're going to play every game because you never know. Samir is the coach's number one at the moment because he deserves it after three amazing seasons. From my point of view, being number two means giving your all in training because things like Sunday can happen: you come on after six minutes and your first job is to save a penalty. The work we do during the week with Papale, looking at our opponents' free kicks, helped me to save the penalty too. And it's a great feeling."
Isn't it a challenging situation to be in, knowing you're back-up to a top keeper like Handanovic? "When I heard Inter were interested in me and that Samir was here, I made a choice. I knew I was coming here as second keeper. But inside of me I still want to be successful and get my chance in future. I have to keep training, doing well, getting on with my team-mates and helping Samir along with Castellazzi, because we're a team and there are different roles in a team. The main thing is remaining level-headed and believing in your ability, because sooner or later you will get a chance."
