CAMPAGNARO: "WE RESPECT ROMA BUT WE'RE FOCUSING ON OURSELVES"

Exclusive interview with Sky Sport 24: "A fantastic team who have scored loads of goals and conceded very few. Mazzarri gets everyone performing at 100%"

APPIANO GENTILE - Inter may be the only thing Francesco Totti can think about now, but the same cannot be said of Hugo Campagnaro and Roma. With just three days to go before Saturday's clash at the Meazza, the defender told Sky Sport 24: "Roma is not the only thing that occupies my thoughts at the moment because we're still at the beginning. We know what sort of team Roma are and we respect them but we have to focus on ourselves and on gelling so that we can play together off by heart. They're a fantastic team who have scored loads and conceded very few. We're not worried by that but it does mean we'll have to really be on top of our game. Another thing about them is that they've strengthened their team with players who are doing really well – just look at Benatia this year for example and De Sanctis, who's kept loads of clean sheets."

What about Inter? Did Hugo expect to see the Nerazzurri make this much progress so quickly? "No, I didn't think we'd start quite this strongly because we're a new team and we're only just getting going but it's important that we keep going and don't waste the good work we've done so far."

In an interview he gave a few days ago, Walter Mazzarri joked about finding himself at the same club as Campagnaro yet again, saying that it's the defender who keeps asking for the coach every time he joins a new team. "I don't have quite that much influence at teams," he smiled, "but yes, we've ended up together again. What makes Mazzarri special? The competitive drive he has and his ability to get everyone performing at 100%."

The Argentine was then asked if it annoyed him to hear people say Inter are among this season's title challengers: "No, it doesn’t annoy me but we have to keep it up, keep giving 100%. It's too early at the moment. Of course I'm curious to see how we do but right now we'd be getting carried away if we said we're in the title race. Perhaps we'll be able to say that once we've played half the season or more."

Finally, there was a question about Mauro Icardi: did Campagnaro expect his young team-mate to get called up to the Argentina squad? "Not this soon looking at the number of games he's played, but I knew he had enough talent for it. I had no doubt he was a good enough player."
