MAZZARRI: "THE LADS GAVE ME WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR"

The coach's views after Juve draw: "We need to think about our reaction after taking the lead, but we expressed ourselves better in the second half"

MILAN - Walter Mazzarri spoke to Sky Sport Italia after Inter's 1-1 draw with Juventus.

In response to a question about the Bianconeri's first-half penalty appeal, the coach said: "If we're going to start talking about a penalty not being given to Juventus then we should talk about Lichtsteiner not being sent off too. But I'd rather not think about that and talk about the match itself. In a very short space of time Inter have managed to hold their own against the top of the class. We took the game to them in the second half and tried to win it. We've come a long way very quickly. As I said before the match, I wanted to see Inter play well and they did. We came into this after two excellent performances and I wanted to see the right mental approach. We knew it was an important game and the lads showed me what I was looking for."

So does this mean Inter can win the Scudetto? "That's not something we should be thinking about now. We've started over from scratch and done a lot already but it's still early days. Everyone here is exceeding our best expectations.

"We need to have a good think about the way we reacted after taking the lead: it was as if we thought we'd already done it. I brought on a second striker because I could see we were playing well and could cope but then the equaliser affected us psychologically and we could have lost it at the end. We can't let that happen. Having said that, we were less tense in the second half: Guarin, Taider and Jonathan were different players and they started expressing themselves. Perhaps they found it a little hard to deal with the importance of the occasion at the start."
