MILAN - This evening, president Massimo Moratti answered questions from awaiting reporters outside the Saras offices in the centre of Milan.
President Moratti, can you tell us something about the timeframe for negotiations on the sale of the club?
"Now there’s also this distraction of a few days of holiday, although we could call it something positive. I believe we’ll proceed by continuing to exchange information. The lawyers know more about it than I do, so I wouldn’t know what to tell you."
There’s talk of the deal being closed after the mid-August holidays. Is that something plausible?
"To close it we need to agree on everything. There’s talk of continuing after mid-August."
So both parties still haven’t come to an agreement on everything?
"No, some things are definitely still pending."
Most of all concerning the future organisation of the club, or does it go beyond that as well?
"No. There’s no problem at all on that matter. It’s never come up as a problem, for me or anyone else. It’s something complex, and as such it needs to be revised so that everything is done well."
You said you would stay if needed. Will Massimo Moratti still be the president of the new Inter?
"I’ll repeat what I’ve already said: we’ll see what is necessary for the club."
Could Leonardo return to Inter, perhaps with a management role?
"Right now it’s not something being discussed. Nor do I believe he’s been contacted by anyone else, which would have been something strange."
The fans are paying very close attention to the transfer market, which you are taking a direct part in right now.
"I’m paying close attention, too [smiling]."
Any surprises in store?
"We’re trying to complete things while at the same time looking at the team and responding to the needs we can foresee. We’re doing it with the same spirit, hunger, passion and desire to have a team that can compete at the start of the season."
In negotiations like these it’s difficult to talk about quotas. At the moment it seems to be around 65%. Is that very far off?
"Honestly, it’s still to be worked out. Right now everything is tied to something else, so it all still has to be evaluated and examined. Then in the end we have to come to a general agreement."
How about a comment on the win against Juventus, even though it was a friendly match. Is it still satisfying just the same?
"Beyond the satisfaction, it was something positive after the loss from three days earlier to have a good match. By resting the players for two days you could see the difference, which came down to the fact that preparations had been so intense, and rightly so. So the only problem is that when you prepare in this way perhaps you shouldn’t take part in such a tournament, because a win is deceiving and you risk getting completely worn out since you have to move forward with those same preparations."
Did we see the beginnings of Mazzarri’s Inter against Juve?
"Yes. We saw an Inter with meaning and structure that looked good on the pitch, and one in which every player could express himself a bit better because he had the legs to do so. But now however I imagine the right intensity in training has started again, so I hope we’ll be ready. But now I don’t know with Real Madrid coming up…"
