CRISTIAN CHIVU ON 'SOCCER IS A KICK IN THE GRASS'

Defender was a guest on America's longest-running soccer radio show: "There's something special about the States. Always great to come on tour here"

NEW JERSEY – "There's something special about the United States," admitted Cristian Chivu as he was hosted on 'Soccer is a Kick in the Grass', America's longest-running soccer radio show.

The Nerazzurri defender continued: "This isn't the first year we've been on tour in the USA and I must say that it's always been great here. The stadiums are fabulous, the fans fill the stands and really get behind the teams. I enjoy coming to play here."

Chivu then looked back on yesterday's defeat to Valencia, explaining that, "At this stage of the season you prioritise the workload over being fresh and perhaps having a better chance of getting a result. That's precisely why the results of pre-season friendlies mean very little, especially as we're playing against great teams, some of which are further ahead with their preparation than we are. We're concentrating on taking on board the coach's methods and instructions and I'm sure we'll see our work bear fruit when the points start to matter. Mazzarri is very experienced and very scrupulous. We'll soon be back to where we deserve to be, challenging for the top positions. In the meantime we're trying to make the most of the pre-season to get ourselves ready. Thankfully the weather's been good to us so far too: it's been perfect for training."
