ZANETTI: "WORKING HARD SO I CAN MAKE MY COMEBACK"

Skipper on future targets: "First I want to start playing again; then, at the end of the season, I'll see if I've got enough left in me to keep going"

NEW YORK – "I don't know when I'll be able to make my comeback but I'm working hard to make it happen," promised Javier Zanetti, speaking to reporters at last night's event in Broadway which saw Inter and Brooks Brothers celebrate their partnership.

"Then, at the end of the season, I'll decide whether to hang up my boots or whether I have enough left in me to carry on. When I do stop playing I hope to be as useful to Inter off the pitch as I've tried to be on it."

The skipper Nerazzurri also spoke about the team's objectives. "We must start challenging again. We have to bounce back this season and to do that we need a strong group of players. We've got more experienced heads and youngsters we have high hopes for – it's the right mix to help us come back stronger than before. We're here to help the younger players because they represent our future - that's why we're placing our faith in them."

Zanetti was then asked about Walter Mazzarri: "He's an expert coach with clear ideas: to be a great team you need a charismatic coach and Mazzarri is that."

You can take his word for it too because this is no fresh-faced youngster talking but a living legend on the brink of his 40th birthday, which he will celebrate on 10 August: "My wish is to stay as happy as I have been up to now."
