PINZOLO – It was the second pre-season match for Mazzarri’s Inter and the first played in the new Nerazzurri shirt. At a sold out Stadio La Pineta, with president Massimo Moratti in attendance who had come specifically for this occasion, the Nerazzurri faced off against Vicenza in a friendly match that finished 3-1. Inter took to the pitch in a 3-5-1-1 and coach Walter Mazzarri will certainly be pleased with what he saw.
FIRST HALF - Inter started off well and after 3 minutes their first chance arrived when Guarin got free centrally and struck a grass-cutter that finished just wide. Then a minute later the Colombian shot again from distance, forcing Coser to stretch and put the ball out for a corner. On 6 minutes, and with a bit of luck, Vicenza took the lead when Giacomelli (a member of Inter’s Primavera team from 2005 to 2007) saw his deflected shot fly past a helpless Handanovic. Then only a minute later Inter drew level; Pereira’s lovely cross from the left picked out Guarin, who volleyed the ball past Coser.
Guarin tried his luck once again from distance and saw the ball find the net but the goal was disallowed for offside after deflecting off Belfodil on its way in. A minute later, Belfodil latched on to a superb cross from the right and saw his diagonal shot go just wide. Belfodil then connected with a corner taken by Alvarez but his header went over the bar. In the 25th minute Capello gave Vicenza a fright when he attacked down the right and released a shot from a tight angle that Coser pushed away. Ten minutes later it was the industrious Guarin, whose cross-shot forced a foot save from Coser.
Belfodil threatened once again on 41 minutes with a shot from outside the box that was deflected out. And from the subsequent corner, on 42 minutes, Inter deservedly took the lead as Belfodil rose to power the ball home with a thundering header. The final chance of the first half came in injury time when Capello back-heeled a low cross from the right that missed the post by a hair.
SECOND HALF - The Nerazzurri made 4 substitutions at the start of the second half. Once the play settled after several minutes, a deep cross found Mbaye free at the far post and the young Senegalese showed fantastic coordination to connect with a volley that went over the crossbar. Meanwhile both sides continued to make numerous substitutions.
A marauding run from Jonathan on 66 minutes concluded with a shot that was kept out by the body of a Vicenza defender. Kuzmanovic was then terribly unlucky to see his powerful long-distance shot strike both posts before ending up in Lorenzi’s arms. Inter’s third goal arrived on 84 minutes; Icardi attempted a back-heeled assist that Padalino failed to clear before Pereira pounced to beat Lorenzi with a first-time right-footer.
