"NOW'S THE TIME TO SHOW WE'RE REAL FANS"

Carlo Molfetta, London taekwondo gold medallist, sounds rallying cry as a fan and a sportsman. Rugby stars Castrogiovanni, Parisse and Canale with him

MILAN - Carlo Molfetta has decided to speak up. Or rather, to stand up and be counted as an Inter fan. The taekwondo Olympic gold medallist did it via Twitter, @molfettaTkd, and the first to follow his cue were fellow Nerazzurri fans and rugby stars Martin Castrogiovanni, Italy captain Sergio Parisse and Gonzalo Canale.

"You go through good spells and bad spells in sport," Molfetta said. "And the one thing you can count on to get yourself back on track is the support of real people who care about you. I want people to know that I'm a real fan. Inter have given us so much joy over the years and now we need to stand by them. Wednesday's game is massive and myself and other athletes want to encourage Interisti to get behind the team."

The London 2012 winner knows a thing or two about bad spells himself: "My own negative period was a long one, from 2005 to 2007. I did my cruciate, meniscus, and kneecap, pretty much the lot. I even thought about quitting. But the federation and people who stood by me gave me strength. Now the team needs to receive the same strength from the club and the fans."

As for Molfetta's highs: "11 August 2012 is the highlight of my career. On a personal level I must say that 22 May 2010, the day we won the Treble, is also right up there."
