MORATTI: "A SHAME. WE WERE LEADING…"

"Then we had to chase the game. Paulinho? Let's see what happens. Too bad about the injuries"

MILAN – After the match against Torino, president Massimo Moratti gave a few statements to awaiting journalists. The topics ranged from the transfer market to, of course, this evening’s match.

"Paulinho? Let’s see what happens tomorrow. It depends on information that comes in from the other side of the world. I feel sorry for the players who came off injured tonight, especially Mudingayi. What will happen between now and the end of the transfer window? Let’s see," stated the president.

Moratti then moved on to the 2-2 draw against Torino: "It’s a shame. We were fortunate to immediately take the lead, not through any great effort but rather by way of one player’s ability. When you’re leading that way you can’t turn things against you with such a defensive error and put the entire situation at risk. But I’m certainly not laying all the blame on Guarin. From that point we were chasing the game. Torino played very well, and Ventura and his lads did a great job. They were like lightning and didn’t put a foot wrong. So is it a point earned? Yes, but it’s too bad because at the beginning we had three points we could have locked up."

President Moratti was asked if Inter are worthy of third place. "I have faith when I see the players and the work the coach is doing, but it’s something you have to show on the pitch. Zanetti was fantastic. Is Milito’s absence weighing on us? I don’t see a problem up front. Midfield and defence were the areas having problems this evening."

Finally, the discussion turned to Antonio Conte and the reaction he showed yesterday evening; the president was asked if the Bianconeri coach reminded him of José Mourinho. "I’ve never seen Mourinho go and attack a referee like that. Never. Mourinho may have made the handcuff gesture, but I’ve never seen him deal with the refs in that way," stated Moratti.
