SERIE A, INTER 2-2 TORINO

Chivu with a free-kick on 5 minutes, a brace from Meggiorini, then an equaliser from Cambiasso

MILAN - Inter v Torino, the Week 22 match of the 2012/13 Serie A season, was a pulsating encounter and ended as a 2-2 finish tonight at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

With a perfectly struck free kick, Chivu put Inter ahead after only 5 minutes of play before a moment of indecision on the part of Guarin allowed Meggiorini to left-foot an equaliser past Handanovic on 23 minutes. A limping Chivu was forced to come off for Pereira in the 28th minute.

After half time the Granata took the lead when Cerci got the better of Pereira down the right and served in a low cross for Meggiorini to one-time past the Nerazzurri goalkeeper. However, Inter reacted through Cambiasso on 61 minutes before the Argentine midfielder drew his team level seven minutes later: an effervescent Zanetti dribbled his way along the byline before slipping the ball to Cuchu to deposit into the net. 2-2. Bianchi nearly found Torino’s third but a super Handanovic palmed away the attempt from the forward. On 74 minutes a challenge from Rodriguez on Ranocchia, who went to the turf, seemed a sure penalty but Massa had other ideas.

Then in injury time Meggiorini had a chance to end the game with a hat-trick but Handanovic once again came up trumps. The draw means Inter now have a total of 40 points, sitting 3 points below third place.
