ZANETTI: "IT DOESN'T ALTER OUR PATH"

"We accept the defeat, it was a hard-fought encounter. We conceded when we were on top"

BERGAMO - Javier Zanetti spoke to Inter Channel after the defeat to Atalanta: "It was a game with lots of chances for both sides. You have to accept the result, Atalanta played well. Admittedly they had us under the cosh at times, but we responded superbly and Consigli pulled off a string of great saves. They scored their second and third goals when we were on top, but that's part of the game and it won't alter the path we're on. What did the ref say about the penalty? That for him it was a foul. Mati [Silvestre] and I were saying that he'd won the ball cleanly but the referee couldn't go back on his decision. Once it was 3-1 they were more in control of things, then at 3-2 we went looking for the equaliser but it never came."

The skipper was asked how much of a bearing the midweek European fixture had on tonight's proceedings: "We did well fitness-wise, it was a hard-fought game, played at a high intensity and with plenty of chances. Both keepers made some top saves and there were lots of goals, but we knew it would be difficult at this stadium and against this team. We weren't lucky? I think saying we weren't lucky could be an excuse. That's not the way I usually look at things. I accept the defeat even though it could have finished differently and either side could have won."
