BARCELONA - The best of world football gathered at the futuristic W Hotel Barcelona last night for the IFFHS World Football Gala. Sheikh Mohammad Bin Saqer Al-Qassmi of the UAE, president of the International Federation of Football History and Statistics, attended the event.
The awards ceremony saw prizes handed out to the top two in each of the IFFHS's nine annual award categories (2011): World's Best Referee, World's Best National Coach, World's Best Goalkeeper, World's Best Playmaker, World's Top Goal Scorer, World's Best Club Coach, World's Best Top Division Goal Scorer, Strongest League in the World, Club World Ranking.
The World's Top Clubs of the 21st Century were also named and among these, thanks to its 2010 ranking, was Inter - the only Italian side honoured by the IFFHS at last night's event. Bedy Moratti collected the award on behalf of Inter. Hosts Barcelona, represented by vice president Josep Bartomeu and sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta, walked away with seven prizes.
