APPIANO GENTILE - An "awkward but necessary question" was put to Diego Forlan, today's guest on Inter Channel's Prima Serata programmme. Here in the studio in Appiano Gentile, the Uruguayan heard the sincere voice of the fans through Edoardo Caldara: what actually happened on the bench between Forlan and Claudio Ranieri during the Atalanta game?
"I understand the fans," Forlan admitted. "From a young age I learnt how important respect is and today I'm here to say that I have never wanted to show a lack of respect for the fans, for this club or for this shirt, which I spent so long waiting to pull on. This has been a difficult year for me and I know that people are angry. I understand them but I want to make it clear that I have never refused to come on and I never will. I'm sorry if there are people who have portrayed things incorrectly and I'm here to explain to the fans what happened. I have absolutely no problem with Ranieri or with anyone else. The coach himself described exactly what happened: he asked me a question in that moment and I replied. I've shown I can play on the left in attack and in other positions. I'm a forward but if the coach needs me in another role I'll help him."
