VIAREGGIO: INTO THE KNOCKOUT STAGE AT FULL STEAM

The Nerazzurri U-19s qualify for the round of 16 with a 2-0 victory over Reggina (Longo and Spendlhofer)

VIAREGGIO - Inter Primavera took on Reggina at the Stadio dei Pini in Viareggio this afternoon looking to book their place in the knockout stage of the Carnival Cup. It took Stramaccioni's boys 44 minutes to break the deadlock, Longo showing a fine piece of skill to chest down Bessa's pass on the edge of the box, beat two opponents and fire home left-footed. The Nerazzurri created several good goalscoring opportunities after the interval, especially when Reggina coach Venuto switched to three strikers in an attempt to find an equaliser, and finally doubled their lead in the 89th minute: Crisetig crossed, Kysela dummied and Spendlhofer shot; Reggina keeper Leone saved but couldn't hold on to it and Spendlhofer made no mistake at the second attempt. That all but guaranteed Inter's qualification but there was still time for Terrani to win a penalty, which Leone saved from Duncan.

The 2-0 final score puts Inter on 7 points and seals their spot in the round of 16, which starts next Tuesday. They will know their next opponents after the rest of the group games are completed tomorrow.
