APPIANO GENTILE - "It was a last-minute deal, and was a bit of a surprise really...," said Angelo Palombo of his signing for Inter in the January transfer window.

On the day of his presentation to the press at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti, the former Sampdoria player told us that "the first sensations were even better than I could have imagined. This is one of the top clubs in the world and I'm very happy."

But does Palombo think that, playing with Inter will help him win his Italy place back? The reporters want to know what his objectives are: "Yes, that too. I'm here to improve my game and make myself available for the coach. I am very grateful to the club, president Moratti and the coach for giving me this opportunity. I'm very enthusiastic about it all and I'll try and do the best I can and show what I'm worth. I know that Inter already rated me a few years ago and I'm proud of that."

The pride and emotions that Palombo lived last night as he came on to make his debut: "A great feeling. Playing at the Stadio Meazza is a wonderful feeling, it's the best."

Positive sensations from the new midfielder, thanks also to the help of his team-mates, but not only them. Particular thanks went to president Moratti: "The president surprised me because when I thanked him for the chance he had given me he replied 'Thank you' - and coming from man of his stature that gave me confidence. I'm truly grateful to him. As for my team-mates, they have all been marvellous and are trying to help me fit into the squad as quickly as possible. A squad I want to win with and I'll do my bit to help them improve even more."
