Inter-Roma: the fourth time

Inter and Roma go head to head in the Italian Super Cup for a record fourth time. The Nerazzurri lifted the trophy in 2006 after a 4-3 extra time win, and again in 2008 after an 8-7 penalties victory following a 2-2 extra time draw. Roma won it in 2007 after a 1-0 win.

Inter chasing record Super Cup triumph

With Italian Super Cup victories in 1989, 2005, 2006 and 2008, Inter are joint-second with Juventus in the all-time list of winners. A win against Roma in the 2010 Super Cup will see the Nerazzurri join their city rivals AC Milan on 5 titles.

Record of appearances in final

Inter are the only team to have played six consecutive Italian Super Cup finals (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010). The previous record holder was AC Milan with three appearances on the trot in 1992, 1993 and 1994.

Eighth Super Cup appearance for Inter (same as Milan); sixth for Roma

Eleven teams have taken part in at least one Italian Super Cup final. Inter are set for their eighth appearance in Italy's curtain raiser, matching AC Milan's record tally, while Roma are taking part in their sixth final.
Inter beat Sampdoria 2-0 in 1989, lost 4-3 to Lazio in 2000, beat Juventus 1-0 a.e.t. in 2005, beat Roma 4-3 a.e.t. in 2006, lost 1-0 to Roma in 2007, beat Roma 8-7 after penalties in 2008, and lost 2-1 to Lazio in 2009.
Roma beat Fiorentina 3-0 to win the Super Cup in 2001, beat Inter 1-0 in 2007, lost 1-0 to Sampdoria in 1991, lost 4-3 a.e.t. to Inter in 2006, and lost 8-7 on penalties to Inter in 2008.

Dejan Stankovic set for eighth Super Cup

Dejan Stankovic is a veteran of Italian Super Cup matches with a record seven appearances (five for Inter in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009) and 2 for Lazio (1998, 2000). In second place with 6 appearances are Costacurta, Del Piero and Maldini. They are set to be joined by Inter's Cambiasso and Zanetti, both on 5 Super Cup appearances.

De Rossi chasing Del Piero/Shevchenko record

Alessandro Del Piero and Andriy Shevchenko are the all-time top scorers in Italian Super Cup history with three goals apiece. Hot on their heels is Daniele De Rossi. The Roma midfielder has scored twice in the Super Cup (one in 2007 and the other in 2008).

Benitez set for debut in Super Cup. Second time up for Ranieri

Inter coach Rafael Benitez will get his first taste of Italian football in the 2010/11 Super Cup against Roma. Benitez' Giallorossi counterpart Claudio Ranieri, meanwhile, is set for his second Super Cup after Fiorentina's famous 2-1 victory over AC Milan in 1996, when the Viola became the Coppa Italia-winning team to lift the Super Cup.

Inter unbeaten in 45 games

The Nerazzurri haven't lost a home game since their 1-0 Champions League defeat to Panathinaikos on 26 November 2008, winning 34 and drawing 11 of their subsequent 45 matches.

Roma last team to beat Inter

Inter last lost an Italian fixture on 27 March 2010 when they were beaten 2-1 by Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. The Nerazzurri have since played 9 games, winning 8 and drawing 1 (2-2 at Fiorentina in Serie A).

No Roma draw in 12 games

Roma ended the 2009/10 season with 9 wins and 3 draws from their last 12 games. The Giallorossi's last stalemate was a 3-3 Serie A draw against Livorno on 14 March 2010.

MILAN - Treble-winners Inter added a fourth trophy to the collection on Saturday night, outplaying Roma at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza to win the Italian Super Cup.

John Arne Riise put visitors in front but Pandev equalised before the break and Samuel Eto'o added a second-half double to ensure the Rafael Benitez era began with some silverware.

The Spanish coach named the same starting lineup that beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League final and his faith was repaid as the Nerazzurri coolly saw off a spirited Roma.

There no was lack of excitement for the 65,000-strong crowd, with plenty of chances for both sides in a busy opening period before Riise broke the deadlock on 21 minutes.

Giallorossi captain Totti played an inch-perfect ball through to the Norwegian defender, who shrugged off a challenge from Zanetti and arrowed his first-time shot into the bottom right corner, in off the hand of Julio Cesar.

Pandev restored parity three minutes before the break. Vucinic passed back to Juan, who completely mis-controlled, allowing for the Macedonian to steal in and slide past Lobont.

Inter edged in front with twenty minutes remaining when Eto'o stole in to slot home Milito's cross from the right.

The Cameroon striker delivered again ten minutes from the end, firing in off Lobont from close range after a one-two with Sneijder.
