Minute Text commentary
46' End of part one. Inter lead CSKA 1-0 on the night and 2-0 on aggregate, Wesley Sneijder scoring in the 6th minute.
45' One minute of added time.
45' Inter attack back and Goran Pandev hits a low shot wide of Akinfeev's right-hand post.
44' Odiah goes close for the hosts. The Nigerian creates space for a shot and tests Julio Cesar with a long-range effort directed at the far post. JC tips it round for a corner.
42' With a few minutes to go until half time Inter slow down the tempo and are content to knock the ball around.
41' Schennikov gets back to intercept Milito's through pass for Pandev.
40' Sneijder overhits his cross for Eto'o. Akinfeev gathers.
38' Odiah is yellow-carded for a foul on Sneijder.
38' Gonzalez has an inswinging corner and then an inswinging cross cleared by the Inter defence.
37' Odiah delivers a cross from the right for Necid but Lucio is right behind the CSKA striker, who can't get a shot in.
35' The Nerazzurri storm back at CSKA and Diego Milito has a low shot kept out by Akinfeev after turning Ignashevich.
35' What a waste. Dzagoev goes through on goal from Necid's pass and has just Julio Cesar to beat but incredibly he mis-fires in front of goal.
33' Sneijder accelerates and looks to serve Milito but there are six CSKA shirts in the way.
31' Pandev threads through to Milito as Inter soak up the pressure and try to hit the Muscovites on the break. The Prince is flagged offside.
29' Mamaev has a cross blocked by Lucio but Schennikov is right on to the loose ball and he weaves his way into the box before seeing his low cross blocked by Cambiasso. The ball falls to the feet of Mamaev again and the Russian midfielder tests Julio Cesar with a decent shot on target.
26' No, he won't. Honda leaves it for Gonzalez and the Chilean blasts his free kick over the bar.
25' Cambiasso commits a foul on Semberas. Another free kick to the Russians. Will Honda take this one?
23' Zanetti makes a headed clearance from Dzagoev's left-wing cross. CSKA remain in attack and their Czech forward Necid fires a low shot inches wide of Julio Cesar's right-hand upright.
20' Mamaev makes a weaving run towards the edge of our box, but what a tackle by Lucio! Inter pour forward on the counter but Pandev is intercepted just outside their box.
19' Stankovic receives in space from Zanetti and crashes a 30-yard effort over the bar.
17' The Japanese midfielder does exactly what he did three minutes ago.
16' Free kick to CSKA after a foul from behind on Honda by Dejan Stankovic, who is booked by Lannoy.
14' Honda's long-range free kick is well wide of Julio Cesar's right-hand post.
14' CSKA make an early substitution. The injured Vasili Berezutski is replaced by Odiah.
11' Sneijder finds Pandev in the area and the Macedonian volleys on target. It bounces up into the arms of Akinfeev.
10' Schennikov runs on to Honda's ball down the wing and whips in a cross. It takes a deflection off Maicon and Lucio makes the clearance.
8' Lucio sweeps clear as CSKA fail to make their first corner count.
6' Honda gives the ball away in his own third and Milito pounces before going down under a challenge from Ignashevich. Free kick.
6' GOAL!!!!!!!! Wesley Sneijder's powerful free kick is under the wall and past Akinfeev. What a start in Moscow! CSKA now need to score three. CSKA MOSCOW 0-1 INTER (AGG: 0-2).
4' Pandev plays a great ball through to Maicon down the right but Ignashevich makes the tackle, conceding an attacking throw.
2' Early chance for the hosts as Honda crashes a low shot wide of Julio Cesar's left-hand post.
1' It's as simple as this: if we score an early goal at the Luzhniki Stadium, CSKA Moscow need to get three. That would create a steep uphill task for Leonid Slutsky's men, who go into tonight's UCL quarter-final return leg without key players Evgeni Aldonin and Milos Krasic - both serving one-game bans. José Mourinho, by contrast, has a near full-strength squad to choose from.
1' The Muscovites get the game under way.
1' Stéphane Lannoy and his assistants lead the teams out on to the synthetic pitch in the Luzhniki Stadium, and we're minutes away from kick-off in Moscow.
1' Inter: 12 Julio Cesar; 13 Maicon, 6 Lucio, 25 Samuel, 4 Zanetti; 5 Stankovic, 19 Cambiasso; 27 Pandev, 10 Sneijder; 9 Eto'o; 22 Milito.
Subs: 21 Orlandoni, 2 Cordoba, 7 Quaresma, 11 Muntari, 23 Materazzi, 26 Chivu, 45 Balotelli.
Coach: José Mourinho.
1' CSKA Moscow: 35 Akinfeev; 6 A.Berezutski, 24 V.Berezutski, 4 Ignashevich, 42 Schennikov; 2 Semberas, 11 Mamaev; 10 Dzagoev, 18 Honda, 13 Gonzalez; 89 Necid.
Subs: 1 Chepchugov, 14 Nababkin, 15 Odiah, 20 Guilherme, 23 Piliev, 25 Rahimic, 26 Oliseh.

Coach: Leonid Slutsky.
1' It's yet another milestone night for Javier Zanetti. By appearing against CSKA Moscow the Inter captain - who is two games shy of making his 500th appearance in Serie A - will take part in his 129th European game to become one of the top ten appearance makers in UEFA club competitions.
1' The prize for tonight's winners is Arsenal or Barcelona at home in the first leg of the semi-final on Tuesday 20 April, with the return leg on Wednesday 28 April.
1' This is our second trip of the campaign to Russia after the 1-1 draw against Rubin Kazan in the group stages, when Dejan Stankovic headed in an equalising goal in the province of Tatarstan to cancel out Alejandro Dominguez' opener. Overall, it's our seventh match away to a Russian club after three wins, two draws and one defeat.

No CSKA clean sheet in 17 UCL games

CSKA Moscow have conceded in their last 17 Champions League games, letting in a total of 32 goals. The Russians last kept a clean sheet in Europe's top competition on 1 November 2006, when they drew 0-0 away to Arsenal.

CSKA out after 1-0 away defeat in first leg

For the second time in their history CSKA Moscow go into the return leg of a European tie after a 1-0 away defeat from a first leg. In the 1981/82 UEFA Cup the Russians were eliminated by Austrian outfit Sturm Graz despite winning the return leg 2-1 at home.

Inter chasing fifth straight European win

The Nerazzurri have won their last four Champions League matches: 2-0 at home to Rubin Kazan, 2-1 at home and 1-0 away to Chelsea, and 1-0 at home to CSKA Moscow. Inter's last UCL defeat was their 2-0 reverse away to Barcelona in the group stages. If they win again at the Luzhniki Stadium, the Nerazzurri will match their record of consecutive victories in European competitions.

Inter through nine times out of ten after 1-0 home win in first leg

Inter go into the return leg of a European tie after a 1-0 home win in the first leg for the eleventh time in their history. The Nerazzurri have gone on to qualify for the successive round on nine occasions and been knocked out once. In the European Cup/Champions League, Inter have gone on to qualify five times out of five after a 1-0 win in the first leg at home: against Monaco in 1963/64 (3-1 win), Torpedo Moscow in 1966/67 (0-0 draw), Real Madrid in 1966/67 (2-0 win), Standard Liege in 1971/72 (2-1 defeat), and Valencia in 2002/03 (2-1 defeat). The other four qualifications have come in the UEFA Cup: against Cologne in 1984/85 (3-1 victory), Apollon Limassol in 1993/94 (3-3 draw), Grazer AK in 1996/97 (1-0 win a.e.t.; 5-3 win on penalties), and Schalke 04 in 1997/98 (1-1 draw a.e.t.). The only time the Nerazzurri have been knocked out after a 1-0 win at home was in the 1994/95 UEFA Cup against Aston Villa (1-0 defeat; 3-4 defeat on penalties).

Two consecutive UCL clean sheets for Inter

The Nerazzurri have kept two clean sheets in the Champions League since Kalou's 51st-minute goal in the 2-1 victory at home to Chelsea in the round of 16, beating the Blues 1-0 in London and winning 1-0 at home to CSKA in the first leg of the quarter-finals.

Inter: only one match without scoring in last 11 away trips

Mourinho's Nerazzurri have failed to hit the target in only one of their last 11 away matches (0-0 at Napoli in Serie A on 14 February 2010), scoring 13 goals in the other 10 domestic league and European games.

MOSCOW - José Mourinho maintained his 100% record in the Champions League quarter-finals as Inter knocked out CSKA Moscow to reach the semi-final stage for the first time since 2002/03.

Wesley Sneijder scored the all-important early goal at the Luzhniki Stadium to add to Diego Milito's 65th-minute strike in Milan, leaving Inter in charge of their destiny and the Russians needing three goals.

An already uphill task became even steeper for the Muscovites shortly after the restart when Chidi Odiah was dismissed for a second booking.

Eleven against ten and a two-goal lead on aggregate made for a walk in a synthetic park for the Nerazzurri who peppered Akinfeev's area throughout the second half.

CSKA coach Slutsky brought in Dzagoev and Gonzalez - both subs in the first leg - for suspended pair Krasic and Aldonin, otherwise naming an unchanged side from the first leg.

Mourinho waited on the fitness of Sneijder until the last minute, the Dutchman passing a late test on his ankle knock to start in a 4-2-3-1 starting lineup with Stankovic preferred to Thiago Motta in midfield and Lucio returning from suspension to replace Materazzi in defence.

The gamble paid off as early as the sixth minute when Sneijder rifled a long-range free kick under the wall to put the Nerazzurri in control of the quarter-final tie.

The Muscovites failed to take their chances with Honda and Gonzalez wasting long-range free kicks and Necid going inches close with a low shot from 20 yards. Slutsky's men were left rueing more missed chances with Dzagoev mis-firing in front of goal and substitute Odiah forcing a tipped save from Julio Cesar.

Adopting a cat and mouse approach, Inter sought opportunites on the counter-attack and Milito was presented with a decent one just before the break but the Argentine was denied by Akinfeev.

The second half started in the worst possible way for CSKA, with Odiah receiving his marching orders after getting a second yellow card for his foul on Eto'o.

Apart from a couple of efforts from Gonzalez, Julio Cesar was rarely troubled. Instead, his CSKA counterpart Akinfeev was suddenly a very busy man.

Leaving nothing to chance, Mourinho withdrew Pandev in the 63rd minute and introduced Chivu, with Zanetti pushing up to midfield as Inter went from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3, and the shots rained in.

Sneijder had a fast curling shot palmed away by the CSKA keeper, who moments later tipped round Stankovic's bullet shot before making a double save at point-blank range from Milito.

Zanetti, whose night out at the Luzhniki saw him become one of the top ten appearance makers in UEFA club competitions, had a chance of his own but Akinfeev was equal again.

Inter will play at home to Arsenal or Barcelona in the first leg of the semi-final on Tuesday 20 April, with the return leg on Wednesday 28 April.
