ROME - Hernan Crespo scored on the stroke of half time as Inter edged Roma 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Argentine striker, who scored in last month's Super Cup victory over the Giallorossi, netted the decisive goal on 44 minutes, shooting through Doni's legs from a tight angle after leaving Mexes for dead.

Inter could have doubled their lead eight minutes after the restart when Mexes brought down Crespo in the Roma area, but Ibrahimovic saw his resulting spot kick saved by the Roma goalkeeper.

The Nerazzurri went close again in the final stages when Javier Zanetti unleashed a fierce strike from distance which smacked the upright with Doni beaten.

Inter finished the game with ten men when Patrick Vieira was sent off in stoppage time for a second yellow.
