MILAN - Louis van Gaal has been sacked by Barcelona, but will remain in charge of the Catalan side until a compensation deal is hammered out. The decision, reached by mutual consent, was taken today after an emergency two-hour board meeting.
General director Xavier Perez Farguell announced: "We have begun conversations to try to resolve a settlement with the coach as rapidly as possible."
Among those tipped to replace the Dutchman are Barcelona B team coach Quique Costas and the double act of Charly Rexach-Jose Román Alexanko.
