INTER MEDICAL MEETING, VOLPI: "WE DISCUSSED TOPICS WITH INTERNATIONAL EXPERTS"

After the second edition of the meeting, the Head of the Medical Department also discussed Icardi, Nainggolan and De Vrij's conditions

MILAN - The Inter Medical Meeting was a great success after it was held for the second consecutive year. The meeting was coordinated by Prof. Piero Volpi in the Sala Executive at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza with over 400 professionals in attendance to discuss various topics in sports medicine. "Following on from last year, we wanted to emphasise some important points in the current application of medicine in football," said the Director of the Nerazzurri’s Medical Department. "For example, muscular injuries which now represent 40-50 per cent of injuries that affect players at the top level and meniscus injuries which are another significant issue for those operating in this sector. We met international experts, also inviting counterparts from Barcelona, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain which allowed us to exchange ideas and experiences on this subject."

Doctor Volpi then responded to some questions from the press about Mauro Icardi’s condition: "He underwent the first stage of physiotherapy before an individual spell of rehabilitation. He’s joining up with the group again, catching up with his teammates. We’ll evaluate his condition next week and only then can we say how long will be required before he’s fully available. We’ll continue with the normal process, like with all of our players. You start with individual work, then you train in part with the rest of the squad before returning fully."

He also discussed Nainggolan and De Vrij who picked up a muscular condition while away with the Netherlands. "Nainggolan is recovering from the problem that he had around 15 days ago. He’s improving and we’re finalising his individual plan. Like with Icardi, we’ll evaluate him at the start of next week and see when he can return to training with the group. With regard to De Vrij, the Dutch doctor who we have an excellent relationship with like with all national team staffs informed us of the issue. It should only be a case of fatigue because the ultrasound tests came back negative."
