VIAREGGIO CUP, INTER 0-3 CLUB BRUGGE

Madonna's Nerazzurri go out at the quarter-final stage

1/19

LA SPEZIA - Inter’s Viareggio Cup run as the reigning champions came to a close in the quarter-finals. Armando Madonna’s side were beaten 3-0 by Club Burgge at the Intels Training Center ‘Ferdeghini’ in La Spezia.

Inter started positively with Schirò weaving his way through before firing over from a good position. The Belgians took the lead in the fifth minute. A cross from the right was unfortunately redirected by Gianelli into his own net. After a tight spell, the Nerazzurri nearly equalised in the 35th minute from a Mulattieri header only for him to be denied by a miraculous Lammens save. Three minutes later, Mulattieri forced another stop from the Club Brugge goalkeeper. Pozzer was alert at the other end to make a save of his own with time running down.

The first shot on target in the second half was Schirò’s free kick but it was a simple save for Lammens. Inter upped the pressure in the final 20 minutes but often lacked precision with the final ball. In the 82nd minute, Club Brugge doubled their advantage. Appiah got in behind and killed the game off with his right-foot finish. De Wolf added to the scoreline and made it 0-3 soon after. Club Brugge claimed the win and progress to the semi-finals in the 71st Viareggio Cup.
