MILAN – Sebastian De La Fuente’s side finished 2018 in style as Inter Women recorded a 3-0 win against Lazio to consolidate their position at the top of Serie B nine games into the season. Marinelli’s brace and Costi’s goal decided the match at the Suning Youth Development Centre. The Nerazzurre continue to boast a perfect record, with De La Fuente’s side now having won nine times in as many games.

Inter looked to attack in the early stages of the game: Merlo’s cross found Pisano, but the midfielder’s strike went over the bar. The Nerazzurre continued to come forward and finally found the back of the net after half an hour: Marinelli was on hand to tap the ball in after Locatelli’s free kick had hit the bar. After 36 minutes, Parnoffi managed to keep out Regazzoli’s effort, but Inter did get their second five minutes later as Marinelli once again got on the scoresheet following a quick counter-attack to cap off an exceptional first-half performance from Inter’s no.7. She has now scored nine league goals so far this season.

Marinelli continued to pose the greatest threat after the break, and she just missed out on getting a hat-trick as she headed Merlo’s cross over the bar. Inter had another chance after 65 minutes, but a great strike from Rognoni was saved by Parnoffi. Inter’s pressure finally paid off in the 80th minute as Costi beat three opponents and fired past Lazio’s goalkeeper to seal the win. Three minutes from time, Parnoffi stopped Rognoni from making it four, with Inter having to settle for a three-goal win – their ninth league success this season. The Nerazzurre stay top of Serie B with maximum points.

INTER 3-0 LAZIO
Goalscorers: 30' and 41' Marinelli, 80’ Costi.

INTER: 1 Schroffenegger; 15 Merlo, 3 D'Adda, 6 Locatelli, 5 Capucci (80’ Pellens 13); 8 Brustia, 4 Pisano (60’ Santi 22), 10 Regazzoli; 18 Pandini (60’ Costi 11), 7 Marinelli (80’ Crespi 2), 9 Baresi (60’ Rognoni 23)
Substitutes: 21 Capelletti, 27 Carravetta
Coach: Sebastian De La Fuente

LAZIO: 1 Parnoffi, 2 Santoro, 3 Gambarotta, 4 Vaccari, 5 Savini, 6 Picchi, 7 Pezzotti, 8 Di Giammarino, 9 Palombi, 10 Castiello, 11 Pedullà
Substitutes: 12 Felicella, 13 Natalucci, 14 Cela, 15 Lorè, 16 Dachille, 17 Weithofer, 18 Proietti
Coach: Manuela Tesse

Referee: Tesi
Assistants: Arnone and Vagheggi
