LAZIO 0-3 INTER: NERAZZURRI DOMINANT AT THE OLIMPICO!

Spalletti's side picked up a sixth consecutive win in the league thanks to a brace from Icardi and a Brozovic goal to move up to second

ROME - The Nerazzurri put on a show at the Stadio Olimpico. Just like on 20 May, Inter won at Lazio. It was 0-3 this time thanks to a top quality performance that was capped off with a brace from Mauro Icardi and a Marcelo Brozovic goal. This sixth consecutive win in the league sees Luciano Spalletti’s side go level with Napoli in second on 22 points following the opening ten fixtures.

After the early exchanges when the two teams studied one another, the match quickly burst into life. In the ninth minute, Perisic whipped it in low across goal but Icardi just couldn’t get to it to turn home. Lazio went close in the 15th minute when a Badelj corner took a strange trajectory but Handanovic managed to deal with it, using the crossbar for help. Both sides had chances a minute after. Skriniar forced a save from Strakosha with a header before Miranda made a great sliding challenge with Immobile bearing down on goal. There was another big chance in the 23rd minute as Perisic cut in from the left before firing a side-footed effort just wide. The opening goal came in the 28th minute. As per usual, Icardi pounced in the box with the outside of his right boot, leaving Strakosha with no chance. Under the pouring rain, Luciano Spalletti’s team continued to press. Vecino twice called the opposition goalkeeper into action before the Nerazzurri added a well-deserved second goal. Brozovic controlled the ball outside of the area before firing into the bottom corner with a precise left-foot strike. The sides went back to the changing rooms with Inter two goals up.

Following the interval, Lazio pushed hard in search of a swift equaliser, with Cataldi first testing Handanovic with a 48th-minute free kick before Milinkovic-Savic then also threatened five minutes later.

A positive performance from Joao Mario, on what was his season debut, came to an end in the 57th minute, as he received applause from the Inter faithful before being replaced by Borja Valero.

The 65th minute saw Politano shoot over from a good position, while Handanovic was then forced into a strong save shortly after as he kept out a powerful effort from Marusic.

Inter’s third arrived in the 70th minute, as Borja Valero picked up possession just outside the area and then played in a fine pass for Icardi. The Argentinian then completed a wicked cut-back to leave Radu lost, before sliding the ball past Strakosha to score his sixth league goal of the season.

Lazio did well to respond despite being three goals down, with substitute Correa first testing Handanovic after a good run, while the Nerazzurri No.1 also produced an impressive instinct save to keep out Immobile.

The Nerazzurri were in cruise control for the remainder, with the final whistle eventually being blown after four minutes of injury time.

We’ll now be back in action at San Siro on Saturday 3 November at 15;00 CET, as we welcome Ivan Juric’s Genoa side and the league’s current top scorer Krzysztof Piatek.
