SPALLETTI: "LET'S BRING CONSISTENCY TO OUR RESULTS"

"On Tuesday, character and team spirit were the key elements. A win tomorrow would mean much more than just winning two individual games"

APPIANO GENTILE - Luciano Spalletti attended the pre-match press conference a day ahead of Sampdoria vs. Inter on matchday five of the Serie A season.

"If we’re able to win these games, we come out of them stronger because it means that we’re capable but we have to keep doing it," he began. "We also benefitted from the enthusiasm after such a win. It could be that we follow up on the win tomorrow and to do so would mean much more than winning two individual matches. Character was the key element, the team spirit. There was the risk of further inconsistency when we went behind but instead, the team kept its balance and played as equals, going to attack up high in the opposition half.

"I don’t know if these two days have been enough to recover. Matches such as the one on Tuesday use up more energy than a normal match. We can only make judgements tomorrow night.

"I want consistency in results from now on until the next international break, I hope that the guys become aware of their abilities. After conceding, we stayed united and looked to get back into it by taking some risks but without becoming disjointed.

"Perisic? I don’t think he did badly against Tottenham. He’s one of the players who runs the most and he’s one of the quickest. There are evaluations to be made in consideration of the rest of the squad.

“I was pleased to see Joao Mario come out and express himself in the way that he did. He is a good lad and can find the right balance to get the best out of himself. He can play in many different positions and knows how to do a number of different things. He does really well when in possession of the ball. He’s a midfielder that plays a bit further forward – a winger that comes inside during build-up play. He is an important player as he has already shown.

“Skriniar at full-back? He adapted very well. He was playing out of position and had to attack a larger space with opponents who had different characteristics to his own. I am sure I can play him there again if I need to.

“Sampdoria? I have admiration for the work done by Giampaolo. He is a great person and a modern coach. He is demonstrating all of his skills and he has a top team behind him. He is always very positive in his play and Sampdoria are a team that like to build from the back and are prepared to play in any manner.”
