INTER WIN THE DERBY TO CLAIM THE SIXTH TROFEO MEMORIAL MAMMA CAIRO!

Armando Madonna's Under-19s beat Milan on penalties to win the trophy for the second straight year

1/24

MILAN - Armando Madonna’s side won the sixth edition of the trophy by beating Milan on penalties. After a wonderful goal from Merola and a late Vigoli equaliser, it went to penalties where Tintori’s saves proved decisive as he kept two out. Goals from Demirovic, Adorante and Zappa secured the win. For Inter, it’s the second consecutive win and the fourth overall in the history of the competition.

The match got off to a combative and balanced start. From an error during the Rossoneri’s build-up, Inter had their first chances of the match. Vergani connected well from the edge of the area but it was saved by Soncin. The ball then fell to Salcedo who fired over. At the end of the half, Milan tried through Gabbia but Tintori was ready to save.

Inter started well after the break and went close to taking the lead but Mulattieri failed to turn home the rebound after Soncin saved from Aodrante. Madonna’s side went ahead in the 53rd minute. Zappa did brilliantly to play in a splendid cross for Merola who applied the finish with the outside of his left foot. Milan looked to respond though Capanni but his right-foot effort didn’t call Tintori into action. Two minutes from time, Milan equalised when Vigolo beat Tintori with a shot to the far post. With time running out, Adorante looked to win it but his left-foot strike went wide to the left of Soncin’s goal.

The match ended 1-1 and it went to penalties. Tintori was magnificent to save two penalties while goals from Demirovic, Adorante and Zappa wrapped up the sixth Trofeo Memorial Mamma Cairo for Inter.
