YEKATERINBURG - Matias Vecino made a solid start to the 2018 World Cup in Russia on Friday, as Uruguay beat Hector Cuper’s Egypt side 1-0 during their opening game thanks to a late headed goal from Jose Gimenez.
With Oscar Tabarez’s side set up in a 4-4-2 formation, the Nerazzurri ace started in midfield and was substituted for Lucas Torreira in the 87th minute. Thanks to statistics provided by Opta, Vecino recovered the most balls during the match (12), completing 103 passes and winning 82 percent of his duels.
