SPALLETTI: "WE'RE TOO FRAGILE IN INDIVIDUAL EPISODES"

Analysis after the loss in Genoa. “The lack of composure meant everything went against us. It was a balanced game, the own goal hurt our confidence.”

GENOA - “It was an evenly-matched game and we had arguably the better chances in the first half, but when something happens to you like the incident just before the break, especially at a time like this, it's not easy to regain belief.” These were the words of Luciano Spalletti after defeat to Genoa on Saturday night in Serie A's 25th round of matches.

“We came back out from the changing rooms looking to play on the front foot and keep the ball in their half,” added the Nerazzurri coach. “But, we needed more balance. We couldn't look after the ball considering the quality that we should possess. Then, as soon as we had a moment of uncertainty, the lack of composure meant that everything went against us.

“The team has never put in a really ugly performance, we needed to stay in the game to wait for the right moment to take the lead but this own goal caused problems for us. We’re fragile at the moment, we need to be able to grow gradually because it’s not easy to turn everything around at times like this, especially when individual episodes are going this way.

“We’re looking to do something different in terms of the game plan and I believe that we’re heading the right direction. It would’ve helped if we had got a result to consolidate the changes made but we can’t undo everything because the changes weren’t responsible for the loss. We’re too fragile when episodes go against us.”
