CAGLIARI - Nerazzurri sporting director Piero Ausilio spoke to Premium Sport just minutes before the start of Cagliari vs. Inter on Saturday evening: “In the last four games the Sardinians have picked up nine points. They are a good team and the change of coach has certainly done them well. There is a fiery atmosphere here and we are playing in a new and well-working stadium. The match against Napoli obviously helped us gain confidence in our ability, although from the outset we were aware that the project with Spalletti should work. The squad knows what to do when they head out onto the pitch. We are strong not because of a prestigious name, but rather because we work well together on a daily basis.”
Inter have unfortunately failed to find consistency over the past few seasons: “It is difficult to make comparisons with previous years but obviously we can still learn from our past mistakes. Today we have a more attentive squad and we have obviously improved.”
Lastly, he discussed the in-form Icardi: “He wants to have an important role at Inter. He wants to remain here for a long time and to win with us. The club has clear ideas. We pushed hard for him a few years ago and his statistics now explain why. As for a life-contract for Mauro, the current rules only allow for a maximum of five years, which means we would have to complete a lot of renewals…”
