GUIZHOU – The Inter Club family has outposts all over the world, and China is no different. Inter Club Guiyang, named after the local provincial capital in the southwest of the country, is run by Wenfan Zhang, who took some time out to tell us about his passion for all things Nerazzurri.
When did you first become an Inter fan?
"My passion for Inter started to grow when I was a student in 1998. That was the year that Ronaldo joined and he was the player that really made me fall in love with Inter. I’ve supported the Nerazzurri ever since – it’s part of my life now."
When was your Inter Club founded and what kind of activities do you do with the members?
"Our fan club was set up in 2011, when the Italian Super Cup took place in Beijing. For loads of Chinese fans, that was the first time they had been able to watch the Milan derby in the flesh. We became an official Inter Club in 2016, taking the name Inter Club Guiyang. The main activities we lay on include organising football matches between members and obviously getting together in the evenings to watch Inter play. We’re also thinking about organising a trip to Milan to visit the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and watch our team play up close."
What does being an Inter fan mean to you?
"A great deal. It’s about being loyal through all adversity. It’s about staying strong, because in spite of everything we’ll never give in. And it’s about being successful, as we did with La Grande Inter in the past and more recently with the treble. On top of that, we’ve never been relegated to Serie B. We’ll get back to the top again and our Inter Club will always be there to support the team."
