A CLOSER LOOK AT OUR DRAGON CITY CUP OPPONENTS

German outfit Schalke 04 will be the first team Inter face on their summer tour: 21 July in Changzhou

MILAN – Inter kick off their 2017 Summer Tour on Friday 21 July with a friendly match against Schalke 04. The Dragon City Cup clash is to be played at Changzhou's Olympic Sports Centre at 19:35 local time.

The German side finished 10th in the Bundesliga last season under Markus Weinzierl, earning 43 points from 34 games.

Domenico Tedesco, who was born in Italy but has spent most of his life in Germany, is now in charge of the Royal Blues.

Schalke have won the league title seven times (the last of these coming in 1957/58), five German Cups, one German League Cup, one German Super Cup and a UEFA Cup in 1996/97, when they beat Inter on penalties in the final.

The Nerazzurri have faced the side from Gelsenkirchen six times in competitive fixtures. After the two-legged UEFA Cup final in 1997, they met again in the quarter-finals the following year when Inter went on to win the competition, overcoming Lazio in the final in Paris. Schalke then emerged victorious in the 2010/11 Champions League quarter-finals.
