ROME - Inter returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory at Lazio in Week 37 of Serie A 2016/17. Here's what coach Stefano Vecchi had to say post-match.
"At this moment in time, we're not able to perform consistently and
dictate games. We were focused tonight and we managed to find the energy
levels we've been lacking recently.
"Sadly, the win won't change our league position but it still means a
lot to us. The players worked very hard during the week and showed that
with the right spirit we can get a result against a strong side like
Lazio. The team can have success if we keep working like that, so it's
only natural we expect this approach on a consistent basis.
"Inter have lots of indispensable players. Today I'd like to single out
Andreolli and Santon for praise - long-time servants for the club.
Pinamonti, who came on late, is also one of our own. We have to give
everyone credit tonight though because we put in a positive performance.
We played well in terms of our fitness levels against Sassuolo too but
what mattered tonight was running effectively in an organised fashion.
"We're trying to bring energy and enthusiasm and use our expertise
because this league position is not acceptable for a team of this
ability.
"What matters most is rebuilding step by step, starting with the little
things. It's about starting with the simple things day to day because
that's how you sort everything out. The club makes its presence felt and
we have strong owners so this situation is a chance to resolve all of
the problems that have cropped up."
