MILAN - He won two UEFA Cups, a Scudetto and the Italian Super Cup during his time with the Nerazzurri. He was also a part of the record-breaking Inter side, dazzling fans with his skill and competitive spirit. A proud Nerazzurri fan, Nicola Berti now represents the club as a player for Inter Forever and an ambassador for Inter Club.
On his 50th birthday, the extended Inter Club family have wished him many happy returns via member Marco Bosisio's open letter.
"Dear Nicola, my eldest son has been studying music at middle school since last year. The day his trumpet teacher taught him 'When the saints go marching in' he came home really excited telling me he'd learned how to play 'Nicola Berti facci un gol'! Coincidence? No, because Nicola Berti isn't just anyone. For many people like me, your age, you stood for an era. You were a professional, reliable, motivated, passionate and exciting player. You left a real mark on every supporter back then.
Nicola Berti was a constant source of comfort during an awkward spell for Inter. Inter won trophies albeit it was struggle. There are so many memorable moments but I'll just recall Maradona's disappointment in 1989. It seemed like he really had it in for you in particular and I loved that. It was a great way to get over the disappointment of the strike awarded as a Fusi own goal. You will always be the number eight for me. I also began playing wearing number eight as wing-half as they said back in the day. My career, however, started and ended (immediately) not far from the stadium in Via Kant. Kant the philosopher told us to act so that everything we do be worthy of becoming a memory. I think you did that every time you pulled on an Inter shirt and that's why I still thank you today.
Happy 50th birthday, Nicola.
Marco"
Happy birthday Nicola Berti from the whole Inter Club family.
